The Fine Print
Privacy Policy
On the Tee is a golf announcer app. It has no accounts, no ad networks, and no social feed. This page explains exactly what happens to the information you put into it.
Last updated 2 September 2026
The short version.
Your player book — names, countries, titles, and photos — is stored on your iPhone and is never uploaded to us. We don’t have a server, and we couldn’t look at your data if we wanted to. The one exception is that the words of an announcement are sent to our text-to-speech provider so they can be spoken aloud. Photos are never sent anywhere.
Who we are
On the Tee is developed by Joshua Sambol. If you have a question about this policy, email josh@joshuasambol.com.
What the app stores on your device
Everything you enter lives in the app’s own storage on your iPhone. That includes:
- Player profiles — each player’s name, country, and list of tournament wins.
- Player photos — taken with the camera or chosen from your photo library, resized and saved in the app.
- Rounds — who is playing, the tee time, the announcer voice you picked, and which holes you’ve announced.
None of this is transmitted to us or stored on any server we control. It stays in the app until you delete it. If you have iPhone backups turned on, this data may be included in your own iCloud or computer backup, which is governed by Apple’s privacy policy rather than ours.
Camera and photo library
The app asks for camera access only when you choose to take a player photo, and for photo library access only when you choose to pick an existing one. Photos are downsized and stored in the app on your device. Player photos are never uploaded, transmitted, or shared with anyone. You can remove a photo at any time by editing the player.
Announcements and text-to-speech
To speak an announcement aloud, the app sends the text of that announcement to ElevenLabs, a third-party text-to-speech service, which returns the spoken audio.
That text is assembled from the player’s card, so it can contain the player’s name, their country, their listed tournament wins, the hole number, and the round’s tee time. For example: “This is the 9:40 starting time. Now on the 1st tee, from the United States, winner of the 2025 Club Championship… Alex Morgan!”
If you would rather a player’s real name or nationality never leave your device, use a nickname or leave the country field blank — the app only ever sends what’s on the card.
The applause sound is also generated by ElevenLabs, from a fixed description of crowd noise. No personal information is involved, and each clip is reused rather than re-requested.
ElevenLabs processes this text under its own privacy policy, available at elevenlabs.io/privacy. No account details, photos, or device identifiers are sent along with the request.
Analytics
The app uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand how the app is used and where it breaks. TelemetryDeck is designed not to identify individual users and does not build advertising profiles.
Only counts, categories, and yes/no flags are ever sent. For example: that a round was started and how many players were in it; which announcer voice was chosen; whether an announcement succeeded and how long it took; whether a player has a photo, a country, and how many titles they have.
Names, countries, titles, photos, and announcement text are never included in analytics. You can read TelemetryDeck’s privacy policy at telemetrydeck.com/privacy.
What we don’t do
- No accounts, logins, or passwords.
- No advertising, ad networks, or ad identifiers.
- No selling or sharing of personal information with data brokers.
- No location tracking.
- No contacts, calendar, health, or microphone access.
- No cross-app or cross-site tracking.
Deleting your data
You can remove an individual player from the Player Book at any time, which also takes them out of any rounds they were in. To erase everything at once, delete the app from your iPhone — that removes the player book, all photos, and all round history from your device.
Because we don’t hold a copy of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our end. If you’d like text you sent to ElevenLabs addressed, contact them directly using their policy linked above.
Children
On the Tee is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The app has no accounts and asks for no personal details beyond the player cards you choose to create.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information held about you. In practice, the app gives you direct control: the data is on your device, and you can view, edit, or delete it at any time. If you have a request or a question, email josh@joshuasambol.com.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
